OpenGate Weapon Detection System

The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority at Ledford Middle School. As part of Davidson County Schools’ ongoing commitment to school safety, our school will begin implementing the OpenGate weapons detection system this week.

Beginning Thursday, April 23rd, the OpenGate system will be used at Ledford Middle School to screen for prohibited items as students and visitors enter our facilities. This technology allows us to add an extra layer of safety while maintaining a safe and efficient arrival process for everyone entering our campus.

The video below provides an example of how the OpenGate system works and what students and visitors can expect upon arrival. Students will be expected to remove the following items from their backpack and hand them to a staff member before screening: chromebooks, 3-ring binders, umbrellas, metal lunch boxes, metal glasses and pencil cases. Our staff will be present to help guide students through the process as we begin using the system.

We appreciate your patience and support as we implement this new safety measure and work to ensure a smooth transition for our students and families.
