In the Classroom

In English Language Arts, we will be reading four mentor texts this year.

1st Quarter: Chains, by Laurie Halse Anderson

2nd Quarter: Elijah of Buxton, by Christopher Paul Curtis

3rd Quarter: Chasing Lincoln’s Killer, by James L. Swanson

4th Quarter: Witness, by Karen Hesse

*It is HIGHLY encouraged students obtain their own copies of these novels since we will be doing extensive work with them, and it will be beneficial for students to have access to the texts outside of the classroom.

These four books are rich with history of our nation. We will be incorporating social studies into our class throughout the year.

Students will be assessed at the end of each quarter using NC Check-ins.

In Math, we will be focusing on 8th grade standards. My students will be challenged daily to put forth their best effort and persevere when faced with these challenges.
