 Chorus Teacher
About Mrs. AsKew
I am thrilled to return to the panther family again this year! I received my Bachelor of Music from UNC Greensboro (go Spartans!) with a focus in vocal/general music education and am currently pursing my master's degree online in music education at UNCG. I am the DCS Middle School All-County Chorus coordinator, NC ACDA MiddleFest co-coordinator, I serve on the NCMEA Middle School Choral Board, and I am the new artistic director and conductor for the Lexington Youth Chorus. I taught chorus and general music in Union County 2017-2018, and student taught at South Asheboro Middle School chorus in 2016. I also have several years of experience teaching private voice and piano lessons as well as musical theatre.

I'm originally from Raleigh, NC, however I have a lot of family in the Greensboro/High Point/Asheboro area so the LMS community is like my second home!  I currently live in Winston-Salem with my husband, Alex, who teaches band in Forsyth County.  In my free time I enjoy playing disc golf and hiking, playing piano ukulele and guitar, doing art, reading, and singing with community vocal ensembles.

About the chorus program
In chorus we learn music reading/literacy skills, vocal technique, citizenship, responsibility and so much more! Students have opportunities both in and outside of the classroom to grow as leaders and musicians. Please use the tabs on the left for important documents. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students perform in THREE required concerts throughout the year (Fall, Winter, Spring). 7th and 8th grade are also required to participate in Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) and the pre-MPA concert in March. All students have additional performances they may be chosen to participate in throughout the year based on both behavior/work-ethic and skill level (NOT talent), such as All-County, All-State, MiddleFest, Honors Chorus, as well as community sporting and seasonal events (Christmas caroling, singing the National Anthem, recruiting at the elementary schools, etc.).
